I am not the most creative person, I have no artistic or music ability what-so-ever, but when I received these Nine West pumps, I knew I had to try my hand at a little DIY. Every girl needs a classic pump and these were perfect to turn into glitter pumps! Glitter pumps have been very popular this year, with the Miu Miu Glitter bootie dominating NYFW.
So here is my first DIY attempt:
the pumps before
The pumps on (ignore my white legs)
I got two types of Acrylic glue + fabric safe glue, a brush to paint the glue on, and blue painting tape to protect areas of the shoe I did not want covered in glitter.
I put the glitter into different bowls to see how it looked in the light, and mixed some of it together to get the right coloring I wanted.
I used the brush to slowly start painting the shoe with the craft glue and then used a spoon to sprinkle on the glitter (you have more control with the spoon and it keeps the glitter more even when you apply it).
I used the blue tape to protect the heel of the shoe and the inside so that the glitter did not get everywhere.
I went back over with additional touch-ups for the areas that I missed. I recommend using a Q-tip for the small areas. After they were dry, I sprayed them with hairspray to keep the glitter from flaking off.
Here is the final product:
What do you think?

Love the DIY! Do you think the glitter has been falling off? I would definitely try this on a pair of barely worn shoes!
Nice job!! I have had more luck with actually mixing the glue and glitter together – stays on better. Also, you should try Krylon’s spray varnish to seal it in! They look great.
looks awesome, great idea!

I’d like to give this a try. I’m curious though. How did the glitter hold up?
What a great idea! I may have to follow suit – but just afraid I will get glitter everywhere in the apartment and my fiance will think I am throwing parties while he is away 😉
